Integrating sustainability into a business takes time but like every adventure we must begin by taking our first steps, and we are proud of the steps we have taken so far...
Sustainability
At the heart of every ACAI product sits the interplay of performance, style, fit and environmental impact. Every time we design and create something new, these dynamics are at the forefront of our decision making process.
C0 Water Resistant Coating
We have adopted a more environmentally friendly water resistant coating that is Poly-Fluoro-Carbon Free. The new C0 LDWR coating ensures no harmful chemicals are released into the environment.
Natural Fibre Merino Wool
Merino wool is a favourite material of the outdoor industry because of its naturally high performance, without the need for enhancing chemicals. Merino wool is soft against your skin, warm, breathable and moisture wicking. It’s also naturally antibacterial, and doesn’t absorb body odours, meaning your garments require far fewer washes. This material was the natural choice for our Merino Wool Hiking Socks.
Plastic-Free
When designing our packaging range we were conscious to did so with the full packaging lifecycle in mind. Our mailing bags include >30% recycled polythene and our brand team created the design using just 15% ink coverage. This not only looks great but helps when it comes recycling the bag too. Our mailing bags are also made just 46 miles away in Manchester. Any polythene packaging waste that is returned is recycled just 88 miles away in a recycling facility that specialises in recycling post-consumer polythene waste and recycles it back into pellet form to be used again in the same proves to make new packaging products. The ACAI team are all on board with closing the loop on polythene waste so we have also installed polythene collection points and they are all trained up on closed loop recycling. This means our staff can re-use waste packaging instead of new for any returns or resales and any waste remaining will be recycled here in the UK.
Recycling
Our ACAI base layers are made using NILIT Heat, which is a unique yarn created with recycled coffee charcoal. This exceptional fibre offers superior thermo insulation, bacteriostatic properties, a powerful deodorising effect, and a sweat-free sensation for maximum comfort and all day performance.
An environmentally friendly yarn, NILIT Heat makes smart use of a natural surplus by integrating coffee charcoal from coffee bean shells into the nylon fibre.
Where possible we are committed to using recycled fabric and have most recently launched our Wild Print Collection, which incorporates 76% recycled nylon. Our Aventurite Stretch Skinny Outdoor Trousers also use recycled nylon.
Reducing
Our partnership with Kapdaa Offcut Company ensures our commitment to reducing garments going to landfil, as our pre-loved skinnies are repurposed to create and cover Adventure Notebooks. We also work Dirtbags, a climbing company in the Lake District who use our Thermal Trousers to make chalk and rope bags.
Reusing
We have partnered with a charity called New Life Charity who work to reduce the volume of clothing and fabric going into landfills. They take our pre-loved trousers and re-sell them (if feasible), or recycle the fabric. This also provides volunteering and upskilling opportunities for young people with disabilities.
