Truth be told, we get well and truly overwhelmed with giddiness when our ACAI adventurers share their whereabouts with us on social media. You lot get everywhere don’t you? It’s amazing to see. So, in true ACAI spirit, we thought we’d work our way across the regions and introduce you to some walking hot spots in your area.

Where better place to start than Werneth Low, Manchester and a walk that escapes the congestion of the city and gives you some head space with a view.

Werneth Low Hill Top

Yes, it’s atop a hill but that’s great for our calves and cardiovascular isn’t it?

Situated in Greater Manchester and a part of the Pennines, Werneth Low hill is almost 300 metres above sea level (that’s where the good air is - breathe it in)! It has some pretty picturesque views from up there that peek over at Derbyshire, the Welsh Hills and the Cheshire Plain. If you can, do it at sunset, as it makes for a marvellous selfie.

Close by is Werneth Low Country Park Visitors Centre, in case you require a pit-stop or refreshment. You should take the time to appreciate this unique area, its industrial heritage and informal gardens.

Werneth Low Walking Routes

Obviously, there are a few ways to make it to the top of Werneth Low hill. As it’s pretty accessible, you’ll probably be able to determine your own route up. But if you're all about the planning and preparation before a walk and you want to incorporate it as part of your walk, there are a few Werneth Low circular walks to try out.

What’s the Best Werneth Low Walking Route?

We thought we’d leave this one for you guys to answer based on these three suggestions:

  • Firstly, one for the less leggy walkers amongst us. The Werneth Low Hilltop Trail. At just over 4.5 kilometres, it’s not too tasking on the treads or time front. It’s simple enough to navigate and you still benefit from the views.
  • Next we have the Werneth Low Circular. A 6.3 kilometre loop taking in green space and wildlife. Perfect for dog walking with friends. Expect inclines and declines across varied terrain!
  • Last up is the Werneth Low Country Walk courtesy of our friends at Ordnance Survey (they know a thing or two about maps and walks, apparently). This one is a bit of a beast, though. Ideal for getting those steps in over the 12 kilometre adventure.

Walk Werneth Low with an ACAI Attitude

If you’re local to Manchester and the surrounding suburbs, this one isn’t too far to get to and you can even drive to it. So, stop with the excuses, fill up your car with familiar faces and give it a go!

ACAI are advocates of outdoor exploration and adventure. Yes, we make the clothes to style out and survive such expeditions, but we also encourage and implore all of you to begin new journeys.
