Hallin Fell Hike in the Lake District
Hi, I'm Lauren Lowiss from @theralphdappledaxi👋🏼
Hallin Fell is one of my favourite hikes - it's a wainwright, nestled near the village of Howtown in the stunning Lake District. It is a relatively short climb but offersbreathtaking panoramic views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells.
About the walk...
Hallin Fell is situated on the eastern side of Ullswater, near the village of Howtown, making it easily accessible for visitors from Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. The fell stands at 388 meters (1,273 feet) above sea level, making it a relatively low summit compared to some of the peaks in the Lake District. However, despite its modest elevation, its position offers amazing views of the surrounding landscape.
The walk up Hallin Fell is steep but relatively short and incredibly rewarding. There are several routes to the summit of Hallin Fell, varying in length and difficulty to suit different preferences and abilities. The most popular route begins from St. Peter's Church in Martindale, where there is a clearly marked footpath to the summit. Another option is to start from Howtown and ascend via Bonscale Pike, offering a longer and more challenging walk with additional panoramic views.
When reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with panoramic views right across Ullswater. From this point on a clear day, you can see across the lake to Place Fell and beyond, with glimpses of Helvellyn in the distance. Hallin fell is also a popular spot to watch stunning sunsets over Ullswater.
Open 24 hours – a great spot for sunset.
My ACAI essential to take on this hike with me are the Thermal Leggings!
Parking:
There is free parking near St. Peter’s Church in Martindale postcode CA10 2NF. Or the option to park at either Glenridding or Pooley Bridge and cross Ullswater to Howtown via the Ullswater Steamers.
