Wanderlust North Wales

Wanderlust North Wales

North Wales is awash with alternative terrains and landscapes that offer up unbelievable views and insights to the hidden treasures of its outstanding nature and wildlife.

Of course, there are other clear and obvious reasons as to why one would want to explore the magic of North Wales, but away from the most ‘Instagrammable’ landmarks and stimulating stargazing spots, North Wales is made for walking and walking’s what we’ll do (or at least discuss it in this article, until we take ACAI Outdoorsing on tour to Wales).

Best Walks in North Wales

Best Walks North Wales

Here’s a category that could be contested for eternity; we’re not here for that debate. Instead, we believe less quibbles and more quantifiable information should help determine what makes the best walk in North Wales.

With that in mind, we’ve categorised a collection of North Wales walks into what may be of appeal to walkers of all abilities and interests.

Once you’ve completed all of the walks on offer, you will then have the authority to award the title of ‘The Best Walk in North Wales’ to whichever one you wish.

Longer Walks in North Wales

Let’s face it, a long walk is technically a hike. So, if you’re looking for a little ramble, some of these may not be for you.

The great thing about longer walks in North Wales is the amount of amazing scenery you will encounter along the way. Hike over hillsides and through ancient woodlands, follow footpaths along reservoirs and rivers and amble alongside mountains to access National Parks and nature reserves.

ACAI’s North Wales long walk of choice: Cwm Idwal Walk

We chose this one as it offers mesmerising mountainous scenery and because it circles the oldest National Nature Reserve in Wales, making it near-on impossible to get lost!

ACAI’s recommended long walk garment: MAX Stretch Skinny Outdoor Trousers

Skinny Stretch Women's Outdoor Trousers

For longer walks, it’s critical that comfort is catered for. These women’s outdoor walking trousers are lightweight, breathable and shower resistant (just in case - it is Wales, after all).

Walks with Waterfalls in North Wales

Waterfall Walks North Wales

Waterfalls are a novelty in most regions, but less so in North Wales. With lots of hills and rain, water will fall. But that’s not taking anything away from the utterly stunning beauty and
variety of waterfalls North Wales has to offer.

Having a waterfall as a destination gives the walk an enjoyable objective. It’s an end of the rainbow reward for getting up and getting out. Plus, it usually makes for an idyllic place to reflect. Yes, thermals should be both functional and practical but style and performance shouldn’t be ignored either.

Our North Wales waterfall walk of choice: Aber Falls

This one is a little blast from our past but undeniably magnificent. Once again, your senses will be awakened to the simply sublime scenery and surroundings you encounter along the way.

ACAI’s recommended waterfall walking garment: The Waterproof Multiway Jacket

Outdoor Waterproof Jacket

With waterfalls being made of water, we think a waterproof may come in handy. It’s versatile and adaptable making it waterproof and lightweight and insulated enough for all-year wear on any adventure!

Coastal Walks in North Wales

The North Wales coastline stretches for some 250 miles and it’s actually possible to walk the entirety of it. We feel a world record attempt coming on.

If it’s a sea breeze and breathtaking beaches you desire, North Wales is a haven for coastal walks. Or if wildlife is your thing, keep an eye out for seals, seabirds and porpoises along the way. There’s also a stack of historic stories to be had that light-up the heritage of this impressive coastline.

ACAI’s North Wales coastal walk pick: Rhosili Headland Walk

For an uplifting and refreshing coastal walk, the journey out along one of Wales's most iconic cliffs takes in unforgettable views and reminisce at the remains of an Iron Age fort.

ACAI’s recommended coastal walk garment: The Outdoor Full Zip Fleece

Full Zip Fleece
Being cosy is important isn’t it? Particularly when you’re open to the elements. That’s why our windproof and showerproof outdoor fleece is a must-have on any coastal adventure. Plus it looks super cute!

Best Mountain Walks in North Wales

Mountain Walks North Wales

There’s no talk of North Wales mountain walks without the mention of Snowden. Whilst Snowden may be the pinnacle of the North Wales mountain scene and well worth the trip, it can overshadow
several other Snowdonian greats

The Nantlle Ridge and The Rhinogydd are two temptresses from their names alone, but both should be explored, rather than ignored.

Our mountainous North Wales walk of choice would be: Cader Idris Minffordd Path

If it’s your first time walking up a mountain, this one has a bit of everything to enjoy along the way, from gorges and tarns (mountain lakes) to ridge walks and uninterrupted views as far as the eye can see.

ACAI’s recommended mountain walk garment: Thermal Seamless Base-Layer Tights

Thermal Seamless Tights

The higher you are, the cooler it gets. We can’t recommend our thermal base-layers enough. Not only do they have-away with sweat to prevent chafe and keep you warm, they also give you full flexibility and comfort when engaging on an uphill hike.

What to Wear Walking in North Wales

Walking Clothes for North Wales

While we’re still unsure as to what the best walk in North Wales may be, we can at least be unanimous when it comes to what attire to wear whilst walking in North Wales.

ACAI are advocates of the outdoors. Our outdoorwear is designed with outdoorsy women in mind. Our products are developed to be practical, functional and durable whether you’re walking, hiking or horse riding.

We also acknowledge the stylish side of the outdoors. By which we mean that we create women’s outdoor clothes that can heighten confidence and reflect personality.  So, if that perfect Instagrammable moment does arise, or you pass a public place to stop and recharge, you can have faith that your outfit will not let you down.
