Glenridding Dodd Hike in the Lake District
Hi, I'm Lauren Lowiss from @theralphdappledaxi👋🏼
Glenridding Dodd is one of my favourite hikes - it's a wainwright located in the Lake District National Park. It is situated near the village of Glenridding, on the southern shore of Ullswater, one of the largest and most picturesque lakes in the Lake District.

About the walk...
Glenridding Dodd is a modest but charming fell in the Lake District. Standing at 442 meters (1,450 feet). Despite its relatively low elevation, Glenridding Dodd offers spectacular views across Ullswater even on a cloudy day. The wainwright is located near the village of Glenridding, this area is renowned for its stunning scenery and serves as a gateway to some of the more famous peaks in the Lake District, such as Helvellyn.
The round trip from Glenridding village to the summit of Glenridding Dodd and back is approximately 3-4 miles (5-6 km), the walk is of moderate difficulty, with a steep ascent right to the summit. Adventurous hikers can extend the walk to bag additional wainwrights such as Sheffield Pike.
Glenridding Dodd may not have the height of some of the more famous Wainwrights, but it provides a short and extremely rewarding hiking experience with some of the best views in the eastern fells. This walk is perfect for those seeking a shorter, less crowded hike while still experiencing the stunning beauty of the Lake District.
Open 24 hours – recommend visiting in daylight hours.
My ACAI favourites to take on this hike with me are the Escape fleece, merino wool beanie, and thermal trousers!
