A family friendly walk in the Lake District

Looking for that perfect family friendly walk with great views?! I have just the one for you…

Tarn Hows is located about 2 miles from Coniston in the Lake District and is such a beautiful walk that you can enjoy whatever the season. This is a pram friendly & dog friendly circular walk and is just under 2 miles. The walk takes around an hour to complete although I’ddefinitely recommend allowing extra time to soak up the views, and take advantage of all the perfect photo opportunities along the route and even perhaps enjoy a picnic!

There are options to make this walk longer by wandering off and bagging yourself a wainwright (although if you are bringing a little one, definitely pack a baby carrier as going off piste isn’t pram friendly!) Black Crag is my favourite and has stunning views across the Langdales.

The car park is National Trust (free parking if you have a membership!) and I would recommend getting there early as it does get busy. There are toilet facilities and if you’re lucky, Joeys cafe may have their pop up cafe there and their cakes are the perfect way to refuel.

I’ve walked this route many times and even when pregnant it was still just as enjoyable. It was also our first family walk a few weeks after our baby was born! Autumn is definitely my favourite season to visit as the colours of the trees and landscape are stunning.

My must have essentials for this walk are, a big flask with a hot drink in, my favourite cosy on the go Acai fleece, bamboo tshirt and either max stretch skinnies or altitude leggings (depending on the temperatures!)
